PENSACOLA’S FINEST, By Sgt. Mike Simmons
“What secrets from deceased officers in Pensacola’s deep history exist? I wanted to gather them and preserve them. This book has done that” Mike said. A second-generation Pensacola Police Officer, Sgt. Simmons spent 30 years on the force. He has investigated everything from homicides to traffic accidents. As the department historian, he has authored papers, submitted articles, consulted and given presentations on the history of the department. He and his wife Jerri live in Pensacola. They have three children and 7 grandchildren.
“I have always wanted to be a Pensacola Police officer – maybe because my father was. Like most kids, my siblings and I played cops and robbers. The difference was that we played “The Pensacola Police Department and _________________ (whoever the local bad guy was at the time). I can’t confirm the validity of some of these stories, which is why it’s a storybook, not a history book.”
