“You Shot Me!”

From “Stories of Pensacola’s Finest”

This is the story of Tac Officer Bruce Camacho and his 1991 pursuit and deadly encounter with Armed Robbery and Murder suspect Jacob Floyd.

Bruce joined the police force in 1986. Five years later, Jacob Floyd was discharged from the U. S. Army after firing a pistol in the barracks. When Jacob returned home to Pensacola, he used the same weapon to go on a robbery spree which ended with Linda George’s murder and the attempted murder of a deputy.

When Jacob and Bruce came face to face, an exchange of gunfire ended in death. Bruce Camacho – a true hero – was the third recipient of the Pensacola Police Department’s Gold Medal of Valor.
