End of Watch: Officer Jason Goen

Okaloosa County, Department of Corrections, Florida

End of Watch Friday, January 1, 2021

“Officer Jason Goen was effortlessly kind, receptive, supportive and naturally gifted as an officer,” said a co-worker. But he wasn’t known as “Jason.” Everyone called him “PeeWee.” His untimely death in the line of duty on Friday, January 1, 2021, resulted from complications of Covid.

Jason, age 38, began working as a Correctional Officer at the Okaloosa County Jail on December 23, 2014.

On December 23, 2017, Goen resigned to pursue other professional endeavors, but returned to the Department of Corrections on January 29, 2019.

“He was not simply admired and liked, but also trusted. Officer Goen consistently represented the best of our department’s spirit on a nightly basis, and all the way up until his untimely passing.”

“Many have been influenced by Jason’s unending compassion, respect for all people, and service to the community.’ He was a dedicated son, brother, boyfriend, friend, and loyal co-worker. His absence is significant and will be ubiquitously felt for quite some time.” Rest in Peace, Officer Goen.
