The Pensacola Police Department is one of the oldest and most historic law enforcement agencies in the United States. Throughout its rich history, many traditions have been followed and kept, from the world renown badges to the respect that our community shows for deceased citizens.

In its years of existence, the PPD has known 12 homes, located throughout the downtown area. In those homes, thousands of people have been jailed there, and thousands of others have worked there as members of this department with such a rich heritage.

From the founding of our community to the European influence, to the mighty shipping industry to the abortion debate, our police officers have been on duty, ready to serve. Our transportation has changed from horses to SUVs, and our uniforms have changed from wool jackets with guardian helmets to exterior body armor and BDUs, but our high-quality of service has remained the same.
